Representative Practice Areas:

  • Litigating high-stakes cases involving claims of patent, trademark, and/or copyright infringement, claims of unfair trade practices and/or trade secret misappropriation, and related complex matters.
  • Representing clients in contested proceedings before federal administrative bodies, including inter partes and covered business method reviews before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and investigations before the International Trade Commission.
  • Conducting due diligence relating to the acquisition or sale of patent and other IP assets.
  • Counseling corporate clients as to patent portfolios and general intellectual property concerns.


  • Scott joined Dority & Manning in 2018.
  • Scott has extensive experience litigating intellectual property matters, including patent, trademark, and copyright disputes in a wide variety of federal courts, as well as trade secret disputes in state courts.  Scott’s practice also includes significant experience managing contested disputes before a number of federal administrative bodies, including post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and investigations before the International Trade Commission.
  • Prior to joining Dority & Manning, Scott worked as an IP litigator in the Reston, VA office of an international general practice law firm, where he litigated cases in a wide variety of industries, including consumer electronics, telecommunications, e-commerce/software, aerospace, national defense, medical devices, and social media.  Representative technologies in these cases include video compression, network communications, wound therapy devices, robotic prosthetics, social media messaging, privacy and advertising, virtual computing environments, telephony networks, and medical linear accelerators.

  • Education: Purdue University (B.S., Civil Engineering 1999); Chicago-Kent College of Law (J.D., 2006).
  • Admissions:  the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and numerous federal district courts
  • Civic and Community Service: 2012-2017 recipient of excellence in pro-bono representation award for work representing veterans and immigration clients, and on behalf of clients of the Innocence Project.
  • Honors: Order of the Coif, Chicago-Kent Law Review member and published author; 2005 national semi-finalist in the Giles S. Rich Memorial Moot Court competition for appellate advocacy.
